From 2009 until 2012 I ran the label FormResonance together with Florian Schirmacher. I was responsible for the art. These are cover artworks partly designed in collaboration with other artists. Some of those covers were meant to be for vinyl – you can tell by the production notes on the label. For the FormResonance release number thirteen I did the layout for a digital (only) booklet which you can see here.
Covers of music media often have overbearing and cluttering typography and graphical ornamentation. The basic rule was to reintroduce photography as the main idea for cover art and carefully use graphical elements and typography where needed, such as on the A-sides of vinyl releases. Digital covers completely lack any typography.
